Promoting the Banner of Peace

Raising awareness means opening someone's eyes to an issue they know little or nothing about. The CIBP wants to go further, and educate the public to act with full knowledge of the facts.

The International Circle of the Banner of Peace aims to help someone who has been made aware of an issue change their behaviour in response to it, drawing on the symbolism of Pax Cultura: Culture as a factor for Peace.

"One does everything better once one understands why one is doing it." The way of life now widespread in so-called developed countries consumes the planet's natural and energy resources at a pace that can no longer be sustained. Since the 1980s, the annual consumption of resources drawn from the Earth's surface has exceeded what the planet is able to regenerate within that same span of time: we are living on credit, drawing down a natural capital that, like any capital, is finite.

Through exhibitions, courses, debates and conferences, as well as by funding action in favour of Peace, universal rights and the safeguarding of water, the CIBP promotes education for sustainable development and human rights, seeking to reach the widest possible public: children, pupils, students, young adults — tomorrow's generation — but also adults and older people.

Make the symbol of Pax Cultura known in every country, through every medium, so that Culture may be recognized as a factor for Peace and well-being.
The two founding treaties promoted by the CIBP — the Roerich Pact (1935) and the Hague Convention (1954) — are presented in full in the Culture & Peace section of the site.
