On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Roerich Pact, the Secretary-General of the United Nations sent a message recalling the continuing relevance of its scope.
"This year, the international community marks the 80th anniversary of the Treaty for the Protection of Artistic and Scientific Institutions and Historic Monuments, at a time when its spirit has never been more relevant. Around the world, we see cultural heritage under attack, from Mali to Iraq and Syria […]. Signed in 1935, the Roerich Pact paved the way for major international legal instruments, including the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property and its two Protocols (1954 and 1999). I call on governments and peoples the world over to unite to preserve our common heritage and our humanity." — Free translation of the message of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, April 2015
