Nicolas Roerich (1874-1947), of Russian origin, was an artist, writer, archaeologist, explorer, and visionary.

He owes his renown above all to his talent as a painter and to a body of work comprising some 7,000 canvases, marked by a profound spirituality, a love of nature — the mountains of the Himalayas above all — and a faith in an era of peace for humanity, in service of which Roerich placed culture. During his expedition across Central Asia between 1925 and 1928, he crossed Tibet twice.

To discover the full breadth of his work, museums devoted to Nicolas Roerich are open to the public: New York Museum ↗, Russia Museum ↗ and Naggar Museum, India ↗.
